POSITION OVERVIEW The Transmission Intern will collaborate with Quanta Technology’s advisory and technical teams to contribute to project-based transmission planning, analysis, and evaluation work. This role combines applied technical experience with professional development, providing exposure to industry-standard tools, power system modeling, and economic and reliability assessments. The intern will engage with real-world utility challenges and contribute to project deliverables, building a strong foundation for a future career in power systems consulting. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Support technical system studies such as power flow, contingency, short-circuit, stability, or reliability simulations Develop familiarity with several study, modeling, and planning tools Prepare technical reports, memos, and presentation materials for internal and client audiences Develop or enhance scripting tools (e.g., Python, VBA) for data processing, automation, or result aggregation, Assist team on various technical projects, including file system recordkeeping REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE Enrolled in an accredited degree program in Electrical Engineering Master’s and PhD program students are preferred SYSTEMS & SKILLS Ability to work independently and around obstacles, with effective problem-solving and critical-thinking skills Ability to work in a diverse and inclusive space Self-motivated and a team player Good written and oral communication skills Familiarity with programming languages and visualization software (VBA, SQL, Tableau, C#, etc.) PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS SYSTEMS & SKILLS Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Visio, Word, Access, PowerPoint) Familiarity with power system study tools such as PSSE, PSLF, TARA, PowerWorld, DSATools, PSCAD, EMTP, or other modeling and planning systems. The primary focus of this position will be to lead and implement engineering solutions for the power systems industry to meet the emerging technical and regulatory challenges of the 21st century. These solutions cover the utilization of innovative automation and integration techniques to improve power system utility processes across all technical departments. TARGETED OUTCOMES A successful Power Systems Advisor will become familiar with Quanta Technology’s project structures and processes in a timely fashion. They will aim to be independently producing quality, client-acceptable-results, as part of the project team by their first 3 months, meeting, or exceeding billability targets. Based on their interest and capabilities, they will aim to become a champion in at least one of the following areas: team management, project management, business development, or an industry accepted subject matter expert. The successful candidate will be accountable for conceptual and primary design, modeling, analysis, and laboratory testing of Distributed Energy Systems including microgrids, energy storage-based systems for non-wire alternatives, captive power plants, and grid automation applications. The candidate should have 10+ years of experience and in-depth knowledge of Protection and Control (P&C) systems, distributed control systems, distribution automation, and system interconnections in the areas of renewable energy systems and microgrids. The position requires verifying the results of system analysis and evaluating the design based on studies. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Support projects in preparing and delivering detailed, comprehensive technical and business consulting reports, including key findings and recommendations, to senior management and stakeholders. POSITION OVERVIEW As a member of our Protection Settings group, you will work on protection short circuit studies, coordination studies, relay settings, and peer reviews alongside industry leaders. Senior Engineers are responsible for leading and providing tactical advice to other engineers in the company. These individuals must be able to perform tasks related to technical or economic calculations related to their field, with minimal supervision. A typical scope of work for this position includes performing and delivering results consistent with a pre-determined scope of work, the hours assigned, and the delivery date. As well as elaborating the scope of work and hours of investment for tasks planned for other engineers. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Setting protection relays Review protection schematic drawings for accuracy against standards Short circuit studies using ASPEN or CAPE Calculations of setting parameters for microprocessors and electromechanical protective relays Prepare settings in the relay manufacturers’ software. Prepare logic diagrams of protection schemes. Carry out peer reviews to check adherence to standards, philosophy, application guidance, and accuracy of calculations. Create models of primary systems and secondary systems in electrical simulation software platforms Perform coordination studies and make corrections to issues discovered. Support other projects and proposals. Further develop Project Management skills Start developing contacts to generate projects Present individual and overall Quanta Technology competencies and offerings to customers Start working towards being perceived as an expert in the area of expertise.
