Advisor – Power Systems Applications & Processes

POSITION OVERVIEW

The position of Advisor is an important technical position within Quanta Technology and is reserved for persons with demonstrated technical skills and the ability to write proposals, execute projects, and help with opportunity identification and client management. An Advisor is encouraged to build a strong industry presence and aim at becoming one of the top-recognized people in the area in the future.

Advisors are responsible for leading a team of advisors or engineers and providing tactical advice to clients at the department, director, or manager level. These individuals must be able to understand complex industry and technical challenges and develop and lead solutions from a single discipline at the tactical level. A typical scope of work for this position includes developing solutions to complex problems that involve technical or economic perspectives.

The primary focus of this position will be to lead and implement engineering solutions for the power systems industry to meet the emerging technical and regulatory challenges of the 21st century. These solutions cover the utilization of innovative automation and integration techniques to improve power system utility processes across all technical departments.

TARGETED OUTCOMES

A successful Power Systems Advisor will become familiar with Quanta Technology’s project structures and processes in a timely fashion. They will aim to be independently producing quality, client-acceptable-results, as part of the project team by their first 3 months, meeting, or exceeding billability targets. Based on their interest and capabilities, they will aim to become a champion in at least one of the following areas: team management, project management, business development, or an industry accepted subject matter expert.    

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead and/or support the development and implementation of solutions required by the power systems industry.
  • Use innovative problem-solving and critical thinking approaches to troubleshoot challenging engineering problems.
  • Provide technical expertise in the areas of power systems processes, data analysis, asset management, compliance, and protection and control.
  • Specification and scoping of engineering and automation solutions to meet specific customer requirements.
  • Contribute to business development efforts, including preparation of proposal and marketing materials, to support the overall vision and goals of the Digital Transformation team.
  • Preparation of technical and business documentation, including project reports, user guides, process reports, and project proposals.
  • Customer liaison including in-person and remote meetings for technical and project discussions.
  • Support projects.
  • Further develop Project Management skills.
  • Begin developing contacts to generate projects.
  • Present individual and overall Quanta Technology competencies and offerings to customers.
  • Begin working toward being perceived as an expert in the area of expertise.
  • Be a team player, promoting overall Quanta Technology.
  • Follow Quanta Technology processes, strategic directions, and vision.
  • Keep abreast of related technical developments in the field.

BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT RESPONSIBILITIES

Business Development responsibilities include identifying and helping to develop strategic revenue-generating relationships with existing or potential customers.  After an initial adjustment period, Advisors typically will perform Business Development activities assisting others in this area.  Achievement of Business Development activities which result in being able to support one’s self in billable work.  The ability to support additional staff in billable work will improve one’s assent within this position’s pay range.  However, Advisors with strong technical skills who do not perform any level of Business Development activity may only ascend to the mid-level of this position’s pay range.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

TRAVEL

The ideal candidate is willing and able to travel to client locations and industry meetings, typically up to 50% depending on the assignment

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Technical expertise in at least one area of the utility industry as demonstrated by previous project experience or peer-reviewed publications, involvement in technical societies, and/or patents
  • 8 years of experience and demonstrated success in technical leadership
  • Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a relevant technical field

SKILLS & SYSTEMS

  • Ability to work in a diverse and inclusive space
  • Ability to work in a team dynamic
  • Ability to work independently in solving business problems
  • Demonstrated in-depth expertise and application of power system concepts in successfully completed projects in the areas of: data analysis, process optimization and development, applications integration and automation, protection and control, and asset management.
  • Knowledge of NERC compliance standards, including requirements, scope, evaluation, and reporting aspects
  • Cascade, SAP, Maximo, CAPE, ASPEN OneLiner, CYME, SYNERGI, and/or PowerBase
  • Well-developed analytical and mathematical skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Good communication and comprehensive technical writing skills

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Professional Engineer (PE) or P. Eng license
  • PhD in Electrical Engineering or a relevant technical field
  • PMP Certification
  • Active in power society technical working groups

SKILLS & SYSTEMS

  • Software development abilities including applications, practices, full life cycle support, or implementation of code
  • Business Development, including preparation of project proposals, scopes, requests for information, and customer liaison
  • Project management, including planning, tracking, budgetary, work assignment, and customer liaison aspects

LOCATION

Quanta Technology has offices in Raleigh, NC, Markham, ON, Lombard, IL, and San Clemente, CA. We offer remote and hybrid employment that supports a blend of in-office and remote work.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Working conditions are normal for a professional office environment. Work may require overnight national and international travel.
