Senior Engineer – Resource Planning

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Transmission & Regulatory group is looking for mid-level power system engineers and leaders to join its dynamic consulting team across North America – US and Canada. The Senior Engineer will independently conduct generation and transmission projects, control the budget, and direct junior-level engineers to collectively work and meet project objectives. Work will be performed under the guidance of senior staff. The role requires performing power network modeling and analyses based on knowledge and expertise in power generation and transmission principles. The engineer is expected to contribute towards the successful completion of a range of consulting projects focused on power system planning studies involving Power System Economics, Market Analysis, Market Intelligence, Grid Resilience, Steady-State, Short Circuit and Dynamic Stability, Generator, and Renewables Interconnections.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform power system engineering and power system economic studies.
  • Conduct power system market analysis and information gathering work.
  • Perform independent steady-state, transient stability, and fast transient model development, analysis, results verification, and reporting.
  • Conduct and lead technical studies for generator interconnection including system impact, feasibility, and deliverability.
  • Support and excel in continuous personal improvement and team management efforts.
  • Perform technical studies per ISOs/RTOs requirements and methodology.
  • Perform complex research.
  • Guide and instruct team members using a strong technical understanding of generation (including IBR), transmission, interconnection, customer and load, and modeling principles.
  • Management of budget, schedule, and quality to ensure successful completion of projects.
  • Project Coordination: Shares and coordinates information with other team members.
  • Client Focus: Focuses on the needs of internal clients (project team leadership) while attempting to gain an understanding of the external client’s main interests and drivers.
  • Risk Awareness: Identifies technical, practical, and economical project risks.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

TRAVEL

The ideal candidate is willing and able to travel to client locations and industry meetings as necessary.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering or another related field:
    • Bachelors with 6+ years of experience
    • Masters with 4+ years of experience
    • Doctorate with 2+ years of experience
  • Experience should include conducting and managing technical studies in areas such as resource planning, grid resilience, transmission planning, and generation interconnection with ISO, Utilities, or consulting firms.
  • Proven track record of technical excellence.

SKILLS & SOFTWARE

  • Proficiency in power system models and tools such as PLEXOS, GridView, PROMOD, Aurora, PSS/E, PSLF, PowerWorld, TARA, Aspen, PSCAD, and/or MATLAB
  • RTO/ISO market pricing structures and processes
  • Expert in Excel
  • Excellent communication, presentation, reporting, teamwork, and facilitation skills
  • Aptitude for critical and analytical thinking as well as the capacity to accept out-of-the-box solutions.
  • Strong teamwork, interpersonal skills, and the ability to communicate with clients at engineering and management levels.

LOCATION

This is a remote position for individuals located in California. Quanta Technology has offices in Raleigh, NC, Markham, ON, Lombard, IL, Concord, CA, and San Clemente, CA. We offer hybrid employment that supports a blend of in-office and remote work.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Working conditions are normal for a professional office environment. Work may require overnight national and international travel.

COMPENSATION

$116,300/yr – $139,700/yr

Bonus eligible
