POSITION OVERVIEW
As a member of our Protection Settings group, you will work on protection short circuit studies, coordination studies, relay settings, and peer reviews alongside industry leaders.
Senior Engineers are responsible for leading and providing tactical advice to other engineers in the company. These individuals must be able to perform tasks related to technical or economic calculations related to their field, with minimal supervision. A typical scope of work for this position includes performing and delivering results consistent with a pre-determined scope of work, the hours assigned, and the delivery date. As well as elaborating the scope of work and hours of investment for tasks planned for other engineers.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Setting protection relays
- Review protection schematic drawings for accuracy against standards
- Short circuit studies using ASPEN or CAPE
- Calculations of setting parameters for microprocessors and electromechanical protective relays
- Prepare settings in the relay manufacturers’ software.
- Prepare logic diagrams of protection schemes.
- Carry out peer reviews to check adherence to standards, philosophy, application guidance, and accuracy of calculations.
- Create models of primary systems and secondary systems in electrical simulation software platforms
- Perform coordination studies and make corrections to issues discovered.
- Support other projects and proposals.
- Further develop Project Management skills
- Start developing contacts to generate projects
- Present individual and overall Quanta Technology competencies and offerings to customers
- Start working towards being perceived as an expert in the area of expertise.
- Be a team player, promoting overall Quanta Technology
- Follow the Quanta Technology processes, strategic directions, and vision
- Keep abreast of related technical developments in the field
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- 5 years of experience and demonstrated success working in protection engineering.
- Accredited degree in Electrical Engineering or another relevant technical field
SYSTEMS & SKILLS
- Ability to work in a diverse and inclusive space
- Self-motivated and a team player
- Good written and oral communication skills
- Effective problem-solving and critical-thinking skills
- Proficiency in using and applying coordination software such as ASPEN and CAPE
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Visio, Word, Access, PowerPoint)
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- Professional Engineer (PE or P.Eng.) license
- Advanced degree in Electrical Engineering with an emphasis in Power Systems
- 6+ years of experience in transmission protection engineering
- Technical expertise in at least one area of the utility industry as demonstrated by previous project experience or peer-reviewed publications, involvement in technical societies, and/or patents
SYSTEMS & SKILLS
- Experience with CAPE macro development
- Experience with ASPEN scripting
LOCATION
Quanta Technology has offices in Raleigh, NC, Markham, ON, Lombard, IL, and San Clemente, CA. We offer hybrid employment that supports a blend of in-office and remote work.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Working conditions are normal for a professional office environment. Work may require overnight national and international travel.
