POSITION OVERVIEW
The position of Advanced Meter Infrastructure (AMI) Executive Advisor will provide strategic guidance in the development, implementation, and optimization of AMI solutions. This executive role demands deep expertise in engineering, analytics, and business development to drive operational excellence, enhance system performance, and foster innovation in smart metering technologies. The successful candidate will develop/lead proposals, lead cost-benefit analyses, regulatory compliance efforts, and strategic industry partnerships by becoming a trusted partner to our clients to ensure seamless AMI integration within modern utility infrastructures. AN Executive Advisor requires a forward-thinking approach, to develop and shape market expansion strategies with data-driven decision-making processes, and long-term investment frameworks that support scalable and resilient AMI implementations.
Executive Advisors are responsible for leading teams of cross functional/discipline advisors and providing tactical advice to clients at the department, director, or manager level. These professionals must understand complex industry and technical challenges and lead multidisciplinary solutions at the tactical level. Their work involves solving problems that require both technical and economic insights.
TARGETED OUTCOMES
The successful candidate will drive the establishment and maintenance of the AMI Practice pipeline at Quanta Technology. They will forge strong collaborations with clients and internal business units to deliver cutting-edge Advanced Grid solutions, leveraging state-of-the-art industry technology. Additionally, they will drive optimized Analytics enabled applications for our clients, ensuring excellence and innovation in our AMI practice.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manage Business Development -Develop contacts to generate projects
- Develop and sustain the pipeline for the AMI Practice at Quanta Technology
- Independently develop proposals and grants
- Collaborating with Clients and Internal Business Units
- Provide Project Management
- Leverage Quanta Technology synergies and resources
- Present individual and overall Quanta Technology competencies and offerings to customers
- Be a trusted advisor to the customer and a subject matter expert
- Be a team player, promoting overall Quanta Technology
- Follow the Quanta Technology processes, strategic directions, and vision
- Keep abreast of related technical developments in the field
BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT RESPONSIBILITIES
Business Development responsibilities include identifying and helping to develop strategic revenue-generating relationships with existing or potential customers. After an initial adjustment period, Advisors typically will perform Business Development activities assisting others in this area. Achievement of Business Development activities which result in being able to support one’s self in billable work. The ability to support additional staff in billable work will improve one’s assent within this position’s pay range. However, Advisors with strong technical skills who do not perform any level of Business Development activity may only ascend to the mid-level of this position’s pay range.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related field
- Minimum of 8–10 years of experience in AMI, smart grid solutions, or utility infrastructure development
- Proven expertise in business development, market analysis, and strategic expansion within utility or energy sectors
- Strong proficiency in data analytics, metering system performance metrics, and financial modeling for AMI implementation
- Familiarity with communication protocols (RF, PLC, IoT), cybersecurity, and regulatory frameworks governing AMI technologies
- Exceptional leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills
SKILLS & SYSTEMS

- Lead the strategy for AMI implementation and optimization, ensuring alignment with regulatory, technical, and business objectives

- Oversee technical engineering evaluations, ensuring robust integration of AMI solutions with existing electrical distribution networks
- Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to ensure compliance with industry standards, cybersecurity protocols, and emerging technologies in smart metering
- Identify and drive cost-benefit analysis initiatives for AMI deployment, balancing investment risks with operational efficiencies
- Provide thought leadership and advisory support on AMI trends, best practices, and future innovations
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- Advanced degree in Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Business, Data Science or related field
- Industry contacts in the utility or energy sectors
- Industry recognized Subject Matter Expertise in AMI and/or Distribution Systems
SKILLS & SYSTEMS
- Experience with AMI vendors, software integration, and deployment methodologies
- Background in smart grid solutions and utility modernization projects
- Ability to translate complex technical concepts into actionable business strategies
- AMI Solution architecture and System Integrations
- Experience with Contracting complex Systems including Federal Contracting requirements
- Multi commodity utility / technology experience – Electric, Water, and Gas
- Distribution System understanding for Protection, Power Flow, Distribution Automation and Distributed Energy Resources (DER)
LOCATION
Quanta Technology has offices in Raleigh, NC, Markham, ON, Lombard, IL, and San Clemente, CA. We offer hybrid employment that supports a blend of in-office and remote work.
