POSITION OVERVIEW
We have an immediate need for an Advanced Testing Advisor with experience in power systems, Real Time Digital Simulation (RTDS) systems and hardware in the loop (HIL) testing of protection and control equipment.
The Advanced Testing Advisor will work closely with and learn from Quanta Technology’s team of industry-leading advisors and technical experts as they provide testing services to our customers and conduct research on emerging issues in the power industry. With experience in power system modeling and protection and control equipment, the Advisor will support hardware in the loop testing on complex protection application, on impact of inverter-based resources (IBR) on protection systems and digital substations utilizing IEC 61850.
This is a critical position within Quanta Technology and is reserved for people with the passion to build innovative solutions, foster teamwork, and work with utilities on innovative solutions.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Practice Development / Expansion: Support and lead test projects on complex protection and control applications.
- Customer Focus:
- Collaborate with utilities and team members in solving technical operating problems or meeting the needs of utility and research clients.
- Lead or support the hardware in the loop testing of systems and solutions which are integrated with any or all protective relaying, control, remedial action schemes, and utility operational functions of SCADA and EMS as well as system analytics.
- Lead or support the hardware in the loop testing of systems and solutions which are integrated with the communications and security infrastructure of clients and target applications.
- Develop business case support for clients justifying digital substation deployment and synchronized measurement technology developments.
- Interface with utilities, government research organizations, and other clients.
- Team Focus & Project Management:
- Develop solutions collaboratively with adjacent projects and teams working in related technical or business areas.
- Be a team player promoting the overall business advancement of Quanta Technology.
- Conceive and structure new projects, with a distribution of work across a team.
- Write technical reports of project results with excellent organization and composition.
- Write, pursue, and close proposals.
- Industry Participation & Recognition:
- Promote Quanta Technology’s expertise and experience in the power system protection and control area.
- Participate in related industry standards development and technical forums, both for technical contribution and learning and for the development of relationships to help the Quanta business and develop new project work.
- Keep abreast of related technical developments.
- Write and present technical papers and industry materials.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- Leadership and Technical expertise in the utility industry as demonstrated by previous experience, projects, involvement in technical societies, and/or patents.
- Degree in Engineering or another relevant technical field
- 8+ years of experience with Electrical Power Systems
SKILLS & SYSTEMS
- Critical thinking and problem-solving skills
- Experience in common power system study tools (PSCAD, ASPEN OneLiner, CAPE, RSCAD, EMPT, PSS/E)
- Experience in Power System Protection including setting process and tools (AcSELerator, Enevista UR or similar)
- Experience with protection device testing and tool (Doble, Omicron or HIL)
- Ability to work in a diverse and inclusive space
- Ability to work in a face-paced team dynamic
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Visio, Word, PowerPoint, Etc.)
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- Advanced degree in Engineering or another relevant technical field
- Active member of IEEE, industry groups, etc.
LOCATION
Quanta Technology has offices in Raleigh, NC, Markham, ON, Lombard, IL, and San Clemente, CA. We offer remote and hybrid employment that supports a blend of in-office and remote work.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Working conditions are normal for a professional office environment. Work may require overnight national and international travel.
