Quanta Technology LLC seeks Senior Engineer (Lombard, IL)
Duties: Perform analysis using Cyme, Synergi, SKM, ETAP, Windmil, PSCAD, and CAPE. These softwares, features most advanced analysis tools for distribution and industrial power systems. Analyses the impact of addition of reclosers, automated switches, fuses, manual switches, DA (Distribution Automation) scheme, fault current interrupters, cable spacers, to improve the reliability of each feeder in a cost-effective manner and identifies a set of cost-effective projects and estimated the system reliability improvement using the predictive model. Provides CAPE System Simulator studies on utilities bulk electric system stations which includes the series of sensitivity checks which evaluates the settings of individual relay elements against criteria used to select them originally. Provides engineering analysis and support for wind and solar interconnection studies which involves load flow and short circuit, electrical system losses, reactive power requirements, arc flash hazard analysis, harmonics analysis, interconnection documents review for various wind and solar farms. Develops distribution level Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) pilot to accommodate high penetration of PV. Perform feeder analysis to identify technical challenges with high PV penetration into distribution system. The BESS cost benefit analysis was performed using traditional mitigation costs as provided by client. Identify appropriate size and location of storage with associated controls to mitigate adverse impact of PV. Provides technical expertise to the planning and implementation studies to integrate renewable sources in a manner that preserves the stability, reliability, and operability of the utility systems and grid-side mitigation measures, this involves system impact studies of interconnection of PV (Photovoltaic), and determined system upgrades, operating conditions required to appropriately mitigate any adverse system impacts. Use Autocad and other similar Engineering Analysis software to develop Project Diagrams, One-Line Diagrams, identify changes in system configurations, addition of new reclosers, relays, regulators, capacitor banks, etc. Manage projects in all aspects including project initiation, project planning, project execution and project close. Interact with client in all stages of the project. Report writing after the project is done. Present and take part in presentations within organization to keep up to date on the latest technologies and industry trends. Write and present papers in the conferences like IEEE. Participate in training sessions organized by Quanta Technology to enhance the skill set. Train employees as needed on the required skillset to get up to speed and support throughout project as a lead engineer.
Required: Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Power Systems Engineering.
Must have completed graduate level coursework and/or projects in the areas of:
- Power System Protection;
- Power System Modeling and Analysis;
- Power Electronics (Basic & Advanced);
- Power System Reliability Planning and Operations in Competitive Electricity Markets, Programable Logic Controllers;
- Design Relays (Overcurrent Relay or Distance Relay) using real-time data and software like Matlab or related;
- Design of FACTS devices specially TCR and/or TSC using real-time data and software like Matlab or related;
- Review of different types of protection techniques for Smart Grids and Microgrids and/or its implementation.
Travel required 10-25% of the time.
