Principal Engineer (Transmission & Regulatory)

Quanta Technology LLC seeks Principal Engineer (Transmission & Regulatory) (Oakland, CA) Duties: Execute projects by applying high level technical skills for a broad area of electric power transmission and regulatory issues. Provide technical expertise on any power system issues associated with the planning, interconnection and operation of the transmission system as well as the generators. Perform various transmission planning analysis such as N-1 & N-1-1 contingency analysis, transient angular stability, reactive power compensation, short circuit, PV and QV analysis and transfer capability. Perform generator interconnection studies for the following technologies: onshore and offshore wind turbine, solar generation, combined cycle gas turbine and pumped hydro storage. Perform power market analytic studies using PROMOD/GridView to identify the risk of curtailment and congestion. Simulation modeling and load flow using PSSE, TARA, and PSLF. Injection analysis and load flow using PSS MUST. Short circuit data modeling and analysis using ASPEN Software. Develop post-processing scripts and user defined dynamic models using Python and FORTRAN programming languages. Develop thorough and accurate technical reports. Effectively communicate and present results to client during the project business opportunities, prepare consulting proposals and execute projects. Start developing contacts to generate projects. Participate in RTO/ISO working groups and contribute to active research domains within the WECC and EI. Adhere to mandatory reliability standards and practices of NERC as well as the regional authorities such as the NE-ISO, NYISO, WECC, SPP, CAISO and PJM. Present individual and overall QUANTA competencies and offerings to customers. Follow the Quanta processes, strategic directions, and vision.


Required:  Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering plus 6 months of experience in the job offered or related engineering position.


Must have 6 months of experience and/or coursework with Transmission planning analysis N-1 & N-1-1 contingency analysis, transient stability assessments, reactive power compensation, voltage stability studies (reactive power compensation, PV & QV, transfer capability simulations); short circuit modeling and analysis using ASPEN software; simulation and load flow modeling using PSSE, PSLF, Power World, and Power Tech tools; Mandatory reliability standards and practices of NERC and any one of the regional authorities such as NE-ISO, NYISO, WECC, SPP, CAISO or PJM.


Employer accepts experience gained during graduate studies. Travel required 30% of time.
